Charros de Jalisco 6, Sultanes de Monterrey 0 – After squandering a three-games-to-none series lead, the Charros shutout the Sultanes, taking the first round series and advancing to the second round with a win in game seven.

The Charros scored four runs in the first, getting on the board when Michael Wielansky scored on Willie Calhoun’s sac fly to make it 1-0, and later in the inning, Kyle Garlick’s three-run homer gave the Charros a 4-0 lead.

Garlick drove in Wielansky with a single to left in the top of the third to make it 5-0 Jalisco, and tripled to score Calhoun in the fifth to make it 6-0.

Jalisco starter Luis Payan threw 6 1/3 innings, allowing a hit and a walk and striking out six before handing the ball off to Sasagi Sanchez, who allowed three hits in 1 1/3 innings. Trevor Clifton finished the game off, throwing 1 1/3 innings and allowing just one walk.

Overall, the Sultanes, who won the Zona Sur regular season title, mustered just four hits and stranded seven runners, going 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

The Charros will face the Algodoneros de Union Laguna in the second round, while the Sultanes will face the Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos. Monterrey advances by virtue of holding the higher seed over Monclova in the regular season after both teams won three games in their losing effort in the first round.

Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos 10, Acereros de Monclova 4 – Aledmys Diaz went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBIs as the Tecos took game seven from Monclova.

Yadiel Hernandez, Ali Castillo, and Jose Martinez each had two RBIs for Laredo, which advanced to the second round of the playoffs for the third consecutive postseason.

Starter Junior Guerra went eight innings for the Tecos, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts, with all four runs coming in the fifth inning, with Kennys Vargas and Rodolfo Amador each hitting two-run homers.

The Tecos advance to face the Sultanes de Monterrey in the second round, while the Acereros’ season ends with the first round loss.

Piratas de Campeche 2, Pericos de Puebla 0 (suspended due to rain) – Game six of the series between Puebla and Campeche, already pushed back a day due to game five being rained out, was suspended in the second inning due to rain and will be completed Monday, resuming at 4 p.m EDT.

Cal Mitchell’s double in the bottom of the third scored Christian Ibarra and Conner Hollis to give Campeche a 2-0 lead.

An inning later, with Hollis at bat and the count at 0-2, the rains came.

Starter Miller Hogan got through four innings for Campeche, allowing three hits and striking out four before the game was suspended. Reliever Daniel Zazueta, the fourth pitcher of the game for the Pericos, was on the mound for Puebla, having thrown 2/3 of an inning with one strikeout.
