Sultanes de Monterrey 11, Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos 1 – Ramiro Pena hit a two-run homer in the first for Monterrey, and the Sultanes poured on the salsa in the fifth, scoring six runs as they cruised past Dos Laredos in game three at Walmart Park in Monterrey.
Victor Mendoza hit a three-run homer in the fifth for the Sultanes, while Pena hit a single that scored former Major Leaguer Gustavo Nunez. Nunez went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored for Monterrey.
Starter Steven Tarpley went five innings for Monterrey, allowing a run on four hits, walking two and striking out three, while four relievers combined to allow two hits and a walk over four scoreless innings.
Game four is Sunday evening at 8 p.m. EDT, with Dos Laredos’ Adrian La Horta starting against Monterrey’s Cesar Vargas.
Charros de Jalisco 8, Algodoneros de Union Laguna 1 – A solo homer from Drew Lugbauer in the second was all the offense Union Laguna would get, as the Charros scored eight unanswered runs to take a three-games-to-none lead in the series.
Mateo Gil went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, two runs scored, and hit his third homer of the playoffs, a two-run shot in the third. Ryan Garlick hit his third of the playoffs in the eighth, a solo homer that gave the Charros a five-run cushion.
Starter Luis Payan wnt seven innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks, striking out seven to earn the win for Jalisco, which is now a win away from the Serie Campeonato despite finishing sixth in the Zona Norte in the regular season.
The Charros go for the sweep Sunday night at 7 p.m. EDT at Estadio Panamericano in Guadalajara, with Eduardo Vera on the mound against Union Laguna’s Grant Gavin.
Piratas de Campeche 5, Guerreros de Oaxaca 3 – Cal Mitchell and Robbie Tenerowicz each had RBI singles in the bottom of the fourth sandwiched around a three-run homer by Felix Perez, his fifth of the playoffs, as Campeche scored all five of their runs in the fifth, cutting into Oaxaca’s series lead.
The Guerreros battled back in the top of the fifth with solo homers from Ricardo Valenzuela and Jorge Flores to make it 5-3.
Game four is Sunday evening at 8 p.m., with Oaxaca’s Kyle Barraclough starting against Jake Thompson for Campeche.
Diablos Rojos del Mexico 7, Pericos de Puebla 4 (Suspended) – Game three between the Diablos Rojos and Pericos was suspended in the top of the third inning due to rain at Estadio Hermanos Serdan.
The Diablos manufactured six runs in the second to take a 7-1 lead before Puebla got three runs back in the bottom of the frame.
The game will resume in the top of the third inning at 4 p.m. EDT Sunday, with Robinson Cano on first, Allen Cordoba on second, and Jose Marmolejos at the plate for Mexico with one out.
