LMB: Diablos Rojos, Guerreros Complete Sweep; Toros, Tecolotes Even Series

 Leif Skodnick - World Baseball Network  |    Aug 14th, 2025 10:15am EDT

Diablos Rojos del Mexico 3, Leones de Yucatan 1 – Down 1-0 in the top of the ninth, an RBI single by Julian Ornelas tied the game for the Diablos Rojos and a pinch hit two-run double by Ramon Flores gave the Reds a 3-1 lead which held up. Closer Tomohiro Anraku picked up his second save of the playoffs, retiring the side in order as the Diablos completed the sweep of Yucatan Wednesday night.

Yadir Drake’s solo homer in the fourth was the only offense the Leones could muster, as they were held to one run on three hits.

The Diablos advance to the second round of the playoffs, and will await the loser of the series between Campeche and Puebla, who will advance by virtue of having won the most games of a team losing the series in the first round.

Guerreros de Oaxaca 4, El Aguila de Veracruz 3 – Nelson Velasquez’ RBI single in the top of the seventh tied the game at three for Oaxaca, and Juniel Querecuto’s solo homer in the top of the ninth put the Guerreros over the top and into the second round with a 4-3 win to sweep Veracruz.

Starter Kyle Barraclough went five innings for Oaxaca, allowing one run on one hit with a walk and four strikeouts, and the Guerreros’ bullpen allowed just two walks over the final three innings.

The Guerreros will face the winner of the series between Puebla and Campeche.

Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos 12, Acereros de Monclova 8 – Johan Camargo went 2-for-5, hitting a three-run double in the bottom of the third and a solo homer in the third, and Aledmys Diaz hit a three-run homer in the seventh as Dos Laredos evened the series with Monclova at two games apiece.

Juan Mora hit a two-run homer in the sixth, and Jecksson Flores went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, but it wasn’t enough for Monclova, who dominated the series’ first two games before letting Dos Laredos back in.

Nate Antone went five innings, allowing three runs on six hits with six strikeouts for Dos Laredos, who will start Adrian De Horta at 8:30 p.m. EDT against Monclova’s Wilmer Rios at Uni-Trade Stadium in Laredo, Texas.

Toros de Tijuana 9, Algodoneros de Union Laguna 6 – Franchy Cordero went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, hitting a two-run homer in the top of the second to put the Toros up 3-0 and adding a two-run single in the eighth that gave the Toros the lead for good as they evened the series with Union Laguna.

The Toros emptied the bullpen, and their relievers ran hot and cold, allowing five runs on eight hits over the final 4 1/3 innings.

David Reyes will start game five for Tijuana tonight at 9:30 EDT, with Ricardo Sanchez starting for the Algodoneros.

Pericos de Puebla 3, Piratas de Campeche 2 – Vladimir Gutierrez threw the final three innings for Puebla, allowing just three hits and a walk and stifling the Piratas’ bats while keeping the Pericos’ playoff hopes alive.

Gutierrez allowed a leadoff single to Campeche’s Brett Auerbach in the ninth, and Auerbach stole second and advanced to third with two outs to put the tying run on third, but Gutierrez fanned Connor Hollis on four pitches to secure the win.

Chris Carter had a solo homer for Campeche, his third of the playoffs.

Domingo Acevedo will start game five of the series for Campeche, while Puebla’s Edgar Torres will try and send the series back to Campeche tonight at 9 p.m. EDT.

Sultanes de Monterrey 7, Charros de Jalisco 6 – Pushed to the edge, Roberto Kelly’s Sultanes de Monterrey edged the Charros de Jalisco to stay alive behind a seventh-inning ground rule double by Josh Lester that sent Gustavo Nunez home with the winning run.

Victor Mendoza went 3-for-4 with a solo homer in the third for Monterrey, which didn’t have a pitcher last three full innings and allowed 13 hits and five walks.

Jalisco will have another chance to eliminate the Sultanes tonight at 9:30 p.m. EDT, when Zac Grotz will start for the Charros against Zach Kingham for Monterrey.
