Diablos Rojos del Mexico 13, Pericos de Puebla 6 – After game three was suspended overnight due to rain in the top of the third with the Diablos leading 7-4, the Diablos finished off the Pericos on Sunday to take a 3-0 series lead.
Phillip Ervin cut the Diablos’ lead to 7-6 with an RBI single for Puebla in the seventh inning, but the Reds scorched the Pericos pitchers for five runs in the top of the eighth to put the game out of reach. Rio Ruiz started the big inning with a two-run double, Aristedes Aquino had a RBI single, and Juan Carlos Gamboa capped the inning with a two-run homer.
The previous day, the Diablos manufactured six runs in the second to take a 7-1 lead before Puebla got three runs back in the bottom of the frame.
Game four is Monday night at 9 p.m. EDT, with Brooks Hall starting for the Diablos against Vladimir Gutierrez for Puebla.
Piratas de Campeche 4, Guerreros de Oaxaca 0 – An RBI double from Cal Mitchell in the sixth and a three-run homer by Chris Carter in the eighth pushed the Piratas past the Guerreros 4-0 and evened the series at two games apiece.
Starter Jake Thompson threw five scoreless innings for Campeche, allowing four hits and striking out one, and four relievers combined to preserve the shutout, allowing two hits and a walk over the final four innings.
Game five of the series is Monday night at 9:30 p.m. EDT, with Radhames Liz starting for Oaxaca against Domingo Acevedo for Campeche.
Algodoneros de Union Laguna 1, Charros de Jalisco 0 (Suspended, Third Inning) – Jonathan Villar’s sacrifice bunt in the third inning scored Jonathan Schoop for a 1-0 Algodoneros lead.
The game was suspended in the bottom of the third with no outs and a 2-1 count to Jalisco’s Johneshwy Fargas, and will resume Monday night at 7 p.m. EDT.
Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos 2, Sultanes de Monterrey 0 (Suspended, First Inning) – Yadiel Hernandez hit a two-run homer in the top of the first, giving Dos Laredos a 2-0 lead. When the next batter, Aledmys Diaz, stepped up to the plate, the game was suspended by rain with one out in the top of the first.
The game will resume Monday night at 9:30 p.m. EDT with Diaz at the plate in the top of the first. If the series goes to a fifth game, it will be played Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. EDT in Monterrey.
