LMB: Diablos Rojos Take Shortened Series From Queretaro, Extend Lead In Zona Sur; Bundy Notches 100th Win As Manager

With a pair of wins over the weekend at Queretaro, the Diablos Rojos del Mexico now have a 29-8 mark for the 2025 season and lead the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol’s Zona Sur by 6 1/2 games.

The Reds took Friday’s series opener 10-9 from the Conspiradores, who are 16-22 and struggling in their second year in the LMB, scoring the winning run on Rio Ruiz’ solo homer in the top of the 11th. The next day, the Diablos got out to a 12-1 lead after three innings and cruised to a 19-4 win.

Julian Ornelas hit a three-run homer in the first on Saturday, an inning where the Diablos scored five runs, and Luis Liberato hit two homers, a three-run shot in the third, accounting for half of the Reds’ six runs in the frame, and a solo shot in the fifth.

On Sunday, the Diablos were again running the Conspiradores ragged before the rains came. Over the first three innings, the Diablos plated 17 runs, and led 17-1 with one out in the top of the fifth when the game went to a rain delay. It was later declared to be a rainout, and since the game was not yet official, it will be rescheduled for the next series between the two teams, when Queretaro visits Mexico City July 7-9.

100 Wins For Lorenzo Bundy – Saturday’s win was also the 100th victory for manager Lorenzo Bundy, who last year led the Diablos to the Zaachila Cup, awarded to the LMB champion, after they powered through the regular season with a 71-19 record, setting the record for highest winning percentage in an LMB season. He is the fastest manager to reach 100 wins in Diablos history, needing only 127 games to reach 100 wins, surpassing Max Oliveras, who achieved the feat in 130 games.

Off the Rails In Aguascalientes – The Rieleros de Aguascalientes registered and activated Enrique Reyes as manager, while demoting José Amado from manager to bench coach on May 30. The Rieleros were 15-21 when Reyes took over, and immediately responded with a 16-10 win over the Zona Norte-leading Sultanes de Monterrey on Friday, but dropped the second two games of the series to finish the week with a 16-23 mark.

They’re eight games back of the Sultanes in the Zona Norte, which is not an insurmountable deficit, however, they’ve allowed the second-most runs in the league so far, allowing 300 opposing runners to cross the plate. With a team ERA of 7.35, the Rieleros have the second-highest ERA in the LMB, and have allowed 192 walks, tied for the second-most in the league.

Where to Watch – All LMB games are streamed live on LMB.tv for a fee.
