LMB: Dorados, Tecolotes Redefine “Multi-Hit Game”; Miles Simington Traded to Yucatan

Sometimes, if you swing at everything, you’ll hit it.

Two different teams in the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol did just that, essentially, last week, recording incredible single-game hit totals, with one of them tying a league record.

On May 21, the Dorados de Chihuahua set an LMB record with 33 hits in their 25-6 victory over the Algodoneros de Union Laguna at home, tying the record set by the Sultanes de Monterrey on May 7, 1962. Every starter for the Dorados had a multi-hit game and scored at least one run in the rout. Former Major Leaguer Andrelton Simmons went 5-for-6 with three RBIs and four runs scored, and Matt McDermott, hitting in the eighth spot, went 5-for-7 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Five other Dorados had at least three hits.

The Dorados scored 11 runs in the second and 16 through the first three innings of the game. Eleven different players recorded at least one hit for Chihuahua in the win, which snapped a five-game losing streak.

Not to be outdone, the Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos nearly equaled the feat on May 25, knocking 28 base hits in a 20-13 barnburner against the Caliente de Durango. Cade Gotta led the Tecos, going 5-for-7 with four runs scored and three RBIs.

Simington Slammin’ In Aguascalientes – Miles Simington was traded from the Leones de Yucatan to the Rieleros de Aguascalientes last week and immediately started producing.

He’d had a slow start to the season, batting .240/.367/.380 in 18 games with the Leones, but has gone 7-for-12 in his first two games with the Rieleros, driving in four runs and hitting two doubles.

Simington is in his first season in the LMB after putting up big numbers with the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the American Association last summer. With the Goldeyes, the Kankakee, Ill.-native hit .329/.391/.503 with 34 doubles and 65 RBIs.

Sticky Situation In Tijuana – Toros de Tijuana pitcher Caleb Baragar has been suspended 10 games and fined an undisclosed amount of money after umpires discovered “a strange and sticky substance on his glove,” according to a league press release. Baragar had thrown one inning, allowing four runs on one hit and two walks, including a three-run homer to Angel Reyes.

Where to Watch – All LMB games are streamed live for a fee on LMB.tv.
