LMB: Fernando Tatis Will Manage Algodoneros de Union Laguna; Moyers Returning to Quintana Roo

Fernando Tatis Sr. will manage in the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol in 2026, he confirmed on Thursday.

Tatis will take over the Algodoneros de Union Laguna, based in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico, next season, he confirmed to Dominican journalist Yohana Núñez on her program, Bola Rápida, telling her that he is in the process of assembling a team and coaching staff for 2026. Tatis is currently the manager of the Estrellas Orientales in the LIDOM, the winter league in the Dominican Republic.

“I’m happy and excited to take on this new challenge. We’re really excited to be going to Torreón,” Tatis said in Spanish on the program. “We are trying to form the team now and talk to the guys, really those who don’t have jobs in the United States yet and those who I think could contribute and help the team.”

Recruiting, a key element of success in the LMB, will be key to Tatis’s, and the Algodoneros’ success next season, he said. That includes recruiting a coaching staff.

“That’s going to be the hardest part, because the people I’d like to bring with me are working in organizations, so they have to stay here and work in the United States,” Tatis told Núñez. “I am currently trying to form the technical staff that will be coming with me to Mexico, so there are many open positions and we are looking for the right men who can do an excellent job.”

The Algodoneros finished 50-42 in the 2025 season, finishing fifth in the Zona Norte. The team last won an LMB title in 1950. Tatis played his final professional season with the franchise, appearing in 23 games with a .241 batting average in 2014.

Tatis is in his third season managing the Estrellas Orientales in his hometown of San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, where he has a 72-58 record through Thursday night’s action.

Moyers Returning to Quintana Roo – Veteran lefty Steve Moyers is returning to the Tigres de Quintana Roo next season.

The Sharon, Conn.-native made 13 starts for the Tigres in 2025 after starting the season with the Acereros de Monclova, posting a 5.26 ERA in 63 1/3 innings with 42 strikeouts and 21 walks.

In three seasons in the LMB with the Diablos Rojos del Mexico, Acereros de Monclova, and Tigres de Quintana Roo, Moyers has 4.63 ERA in 233 1/3 innings across 50 appearances, striking out 147 batters and walking just 56.
