LMB: Former MLB OF Jonathan Schoop Signs With Algodoneros de Union Laguna

Veteran MLB outfielder Jonathan Schoop has signed with the Algodoneros de Union Laguna in the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol.

Schoop, 31, has played 11 seasons in Major League Baseball with Baltimore, Minnesota, and Detroit, slashing .254/.293/.428 with a .721 OPS in 1,188 career games, knocking 1,095 hits and 174 home runs.

His best season came in 2017 with Baltimore, where he hit .293/.338/.503 with an OPS of .841, clubbed 32 homers and drove in 105 runs, was an All-Star and finished 12th in American League MVP balloting.

The Willemstad, Curacao-native’s productivity has fallen off over the two season, with Schoop batting .213/.278/.272 with a .550 OPS in limited action in 2023. In 55 games withDetroit, he had 29 hits, eight doubles, and seven RBI before he was released on July 12.

Schoop played in eight games at the 2024 Caribbean Series for Curacao, batting .219 with seven hits, two homers, and five RBI.

Based in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico, in the LMB’s Zona Norte, the Algodoneros won the Zona Norte title but fell to the Pericos de Puebla four games to three.
