After being released from his minor league deal with the Minnesota Twins last month, right-hander Huascar Ynoa has signed with the Leones de Yucatan in the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol.

Ynoa, 27, made 41 appearances with the Atlanta Braves between 2019-22, with his best season coming in 2021, when he made 17 starts and threw 91 innings with a 4.05 ERA and 100 strikeouts. He spent most of the 2022 season at Triple-A Gwinnett, and then missed the 2023 season to rehab after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

Last season, he threw 26 1/3 innings with Gwinnett, posting a 6.15 ERA with 22 strikeouts and 18 walks. He signed a minor league deal with Minnesota and was assigned to Triple-A St. Paul, where he made five relief appearances, throwing 4 1/3 innings with a 10.38 ERA.

A native of Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, Ynoa threw two perfect innings as the starter in Yucatan’s 13-8 win against Puebla, his debut with the Leones. Yucatan is currently 10-13 in the LMB’s Zona Sur, eight games back of the first-place Diablos Rojos del Mexico.
