The Piratas de Campeche were held to just five hits in game one of the Serie Campeonato, but they made them count.
Meanwhile, their pitching staff scattered eight hits and walked four but held the Diablos Rojos del Mexico to just two runs, as Campeche knocked off the regular season winners of the Zona Sur 4-2 in the first game of their best-of-seven series.
Robinson Cano got the Diablos on the board in the bottom of the first with an RBI single that scored Allen Cordoba.
In the top of the fourth, Campeche’s Chris Carter’s sixth homer of the playoffs, a two-run shot to left center, gave the Piratas a 2-1 lead.
Rio Ruiz hit a solo homer to tie the game for the Diablos, but that was as close as they would get.
Cal Mitchell’s sacrifice fly in the fifth scored Christian Ibarra with the go-ahead run, and Mitchell provided insurance in the seventh when his fly ball to left center fell to the turf in between Diablos left fielder Julian Ornelas and center fielder Allen Cordoba, allowing Ibarra to score again.

Game two of the series is Sunday at 4 p.m. EDT, with Jake Thompson starting for Campeche against Brooks Hall for Mexico.
