Felix Perez hit a solo homer in the fifth, his seventh of the playoffs, Christian Ibarra followed two batters later with an RBI single, and Brett Auerbach hit a three-run homer in the top of the eighth as the Piratas de Campeche topped the Guerreros de Oaxaca and forced a deciding game seven in their second-round playoff series in the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Guerreros climbed back into the game when Juniel Querecuto hit a three-run homer to right field off Darrell Thompson, cutting the Piratas’ lead to 5-3, but Jose Isidro Marquez and Zac Rosscup then came out of the bullpen and stifled the Guerreros over 1 2/3 innings to close out the win.
Miller Hogan earned the win for Campeche, going 5 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing six hits, a walk, and striking out two.
Game seven is tonight at 9 p.m. EDT in Oaxaca, with Sho Itoh starting for Campeche against Luis Miranda for Oaxaca. The winner will face the Diablos Rojos del Mexico in the Zona Sur’s Serie Campeonato, which will begin on Saturday in Mexico City at Estadio Alfredo Harp Helu.
Game Six In Zona Norte Tonight – At 9:30 p.m. EDT, the Charros de Jalisco face the Algodoneros de Union Laguna at Estadio Panamericano in Guadalajara, Jalisco, in game six of the second round series. Should the Charros win tonight, the Serie Campeonato in the Zona Norte would start on Saturday at Jalisco, but if there’s a game seven, the third round of the playoffs would start Sunday in either Jalisco or Torreon, depending upon which team advances.
