For the second time in the 2025 Liga Mexicana de Beisbol playoffs, the Charros de Jalisco have a two-games-to-none series lead on the Sultanes de Monterrey.

A four-run bottom of the second powered the Charros to a 6-3 win in game two of the Serie Campeonato, putting them two wins away from a second series victory over the Zona Norte regular season champions and a berth in the Serie del Rey.

Monterrey grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI double by Ramiro Pena that scored Gustavo Nunez and a sac fly by Victor Mendoza that scored Pena.

In the bottom of the second, Josh Stowers drove home Willie Calhoun with a one-out double to center field, and then a wild pitch by Monterrey starter Manny Banuelos allowed Stowers to score. Later in the inning, Michael Wielansky’s double to right field scored Josh Fuentes and Alfredo Hurtado to give the Charros a 4-0 lead.

Raimel Tapia’s RBI double in the fourth scored Sebastian Elizalde to make it 4-3, but the Charros got two more in the eighth inning, when a double from Kyle Garlick scored Carlos Baez and a single from Fuentes sent Garlick home.

The series travels to Monterrey Tuesday, with game three scheduled for Wednesday night at 9:30 p.m. EDT. Luis Payan will start for Jalisco against Stephen Tarpley for Monterrey.

Diablos Rojos, Piratas Play Game Three Tonight – Their series tied 1-1, the Piratas de Campeche will host the Diablos Rojos del Mexico Tuesday night at 9:30 p.m. EDT for game three of the Zona Sur’s Serie Campeonato, with Justin Courtney starting for the Diablos against Miller Hogan for Campeche.
