LMB Playoffs: Diablos Rojos del Mexico, Conspiradores de Queretaro Each Win Series Opener

Diablos Rojos del Mexico 6, Leones de Yucatan 2 – Jose Marmolejos hit a two-run single to left field and later scored on a passed ball, and the Diablos Rojos added another run on a wild pitch in a four-run bottom of the seventh to take game one of the Serie del Zona from the Leones.

Juan Carlos Gamboa got the Diablos on the board with a solo homer in the third, and Jose Pirela added an RBI single in the fourth.

Starter Brooks Hall allowed one run on five hits, walking three and striking out two for Mexico City.

Luis Juarez drove in Yadir Drake for Yucatan with a double in the top of the fourth, and Taylor Motter’s single in the eighth got Jose Martinez home with the Leones other run.

Game two is tonight at 9 p.m. EDT, with Erick Leal starting for Mexico against Francisco Haro for Yucatan.

Guerreros de Oaxaca 9, Conspiradores de Queretaro 8 – Oaxaca took a 9-7 lead in the top of the eighth and held on to take game one from Queretaro, despite a rally in the bottom of the ninth by the Conspiradores.

Alexi Amarista went 3-for-6 for Oaxaca and scored a pair of runs, and starter Solomon Bates went six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, striking out seven and walking two.

Kelvin Gutierrez and Rusney Castillo each had a pair of RBIs for Queretaro. Rio Ruiz’ one-out single in the bottom of the ninth scored Gutierrez to get Queretaro within a run, but Oaxaca’s Jojane Torres retired the next two batters to end the game.

Game two of the series is tonight at 9:30 p.m. EDT, with Wilfredo Boscan starting for Queretaro. Oaxaca hasn’t named a starter.
