Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos 2, Algodoneros de Union Laguna 0 – Robert Stock allowed four hits, struck out nine and walked none, throwing a complete game shutout for the Tecos, who took a 2-0 series lead over the Algodoneros with the win.
Francisco Arcia’s two-run homer in the second inning scored Rangel Ravelo for the game’s only runs.
Union Laguna got singles from Aaron Altherr and Adrian Tovalin in the top of the second, a single from Allen Cordoba in the third, and a single from Albert Lara in the eighth, but never threatened to score.
Game three of the series is schedule for Saturday at 10 p.m. EDT in Monclova, with Emilio Vargas of the Tecos starting against the Algodoneros’ Aldo Montes.
Sultanes de Monterrey 8, Acereros de Monclova 2 – The Sultanes scored four runs in the sixth inning, added another in the seventh and two more in the eight to take game two and even the Serie del Zona with the Acereros at one game apiece.
Victor Mendoza drove in Ramiro Pena with a single, Asael Sanchez’ double score Nomar Mazara, and Christian Villanueva drove in Mendoza and Sanchez with a single to center in the sixth, with three of the runs being charged to Monclova reliever Darien Nunez.
Nunez, who replaced starter Jorge Tavarez after 5 1/3 innings, failed to retire a batter and was charged with three earned runs, allowing two hits and a walk. Tavarez allowed two runs on two hits with three walks and five strikeouts.
Game three of the series is schedule for Saturday at 9 p.m. EDT, with Monterrey sending Jared Lakind to the mound against Edgar Arredondo for Monclova.
