Radhames Liz held the mound for the Guerreros de Oaxaca in game two, who captured a two-game lead in the Serie de Campeonato from the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol’s top team in the regular season behind Liz’s seven innings of two-hit ball.

Liz took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, walking just two batters and allowing two hits all day, one of them a solo homer to Franklin Barreto in the bottom of the sixth, as the Guerreros took a two games to none series lead with the next three games in Oaxaca.

Ricardo Valenzuela hit a grand slam to left field in the top of the second to give Oaxaca a 4-0 lead, and shortly after the homer, the benches cleared and Oaxaca manager Luis Carlos Rivera was ejected by second base umpire Orlando Lopez.

Alexi Amarista’s RBI single in the seventh restored the Guerreros’ four-run lead, and they added two more in the eighth on Luis Barrera’s single and a sacrifice fly by Juniel Querecuto.

The Diablos drew within three in the eighth, getting an RBI single from Robinson Cano, who later scored from third on a ground out to first base by Jose Pirela.

Yariel Gonzalez and Roberto Ramos added solo homers in the ninth for Oaxaca.

Two consecutive losses to start the series by the Diablos equals their longest losing streaks during the regular season. They’ve not lost three consecutive games at any point this season.

“The Diablos didn’t play baseball like the Diablos in the first two games, especially today,” said the scarlet manager Lorenzo Bundy in an interview circulated by the Diablos Rojos. “All the things we want to do to win a championship are in our hands. To win the series, you have to win four games. They have two. How many times this year have we won 10 games (straight)? Many times. I believe in my people.”

The series returns to Oaxaca for game three, which is scheduled for 10 p.m. EDT Tuesday evening. Brooks Hall has been announced as the starter for the Diablos Rojos, while the Guerreros haven’t named a starter yet.
