Guerreros de Oaxaca 5, Diablos Rojos del Mexico 4 – Trevor Bauer allowed five runs on seven hits as the Guerreros finally pinned a loss on the LMB’s top pitcher in game one of the Serie de Campeonato.

Alexi Amarista’s three-run homer in the top of the third gave Oaxaca a 3-0 lead, Luis Barrera singled home a run in the fourth, and Amarista hit a solo homer in the fifth, giving the Guerreros all the runs they’d need to steal the first game at Estadio Alfredo Harp Helu in Mexico City.

Oaxaca starter Solomon Bates quieted the Diablos bats, allowing three runs on seven hits in five innings of work, walking two and striking out three.

Jose Marmolejos hit a solo homer in the first, Jose Pirela’s drove in a pair of runs in the third, and Juan Carlos Gamboa’s homer in the bottom of the eighth capped the Diablos offense.

Game two is Sunday at 5 p.m. EDT at Estadio Alfredo Harp Helu in Mexico City, with Erick Leal starting for the Diablos Rojos against Radhames Liz of the Guerreros de Oaxaca.

Sultanes de Monterrey 7, Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos 6 – Four runs in the eighth inning and three more in the ninth capped a comeback from a six-run deficit for the Sultanes, who now lead the Serie de Campeonato 2-0.

The Tecos exploded for six runs in the fourth inning, starting with a solo homer from Yadiel Hernandez. Later in the inning, Danry Vasquez drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Kennys Vargas for a 2-0 lead. Freddy Galvis followed with a bases-clearing triple, and Cade Gotta drove in Galvis with a single to make it 6-0.

Starting pitching wasn’t the problem for Laredo, which got six shutout innings from Nate Antone. Rather, the bullpen, solid during the regular season, coughed up the lead in the final two innings, allowing seven runs on six hits and four walks.

In the bottom of the eighth, Victor Mendoza’s double to right scored Ramiro Pena and Roberto Valenzuela. With Mendoza on second, Christian Villanueva’s hot shot to third was misplayed by Dos Laredos’ Luis Sardinas, allowing Mendoza to score from second. A wild pitch by Dos Laredos closer Arnaldo Hernandez allowed Mendoza to score, and suddenly, the Tecos’ lead was down to two runs.

In the bottom of the ninth, Asael Sanchez tied the game for Monterrey with a two-run homer to right field. Three batters later, with runners on first and second and one out, Jermaine Palacios singled up the middle, sending Luis Santos home from second with the winning run.

Sunday is a travel day, and game three will be played Monday at 8:30 p.m. at UniTrade Stadium in Laredo, Texas.
