LMB Playoffs: Oaxaca, Mexico Up 2-0 In Zona Sur Series; Dos Laredos Takes 3-1 Lead With Romp

Diablos Rojos del Mexico 8, Leones de Yucatan 6 – Holding a 4-0 lead when the game resumed at the start of the bottom of the second after being suspended for rain, the Diablos Rojos added three runs in the third and held on to defeat the Leones 8-6, giving Mexico City a 2-0 series lead.

Jose Pirela’s RBI single drove in Robinson Cano, and Jose Rondon followed with a homer to make it 7-0 in the bottom of the second.

Norberto Obeso had a pair of RBI singles as the Leones clawed their way back into the game. Luis Juarez hit a two-run double in the seventh, scoring Obeso and Yadir Drake to make it 7-4. Jose Peraza’s eighth-inning solo homer drew Yucatan within two, but they never got closer.

The series resumes on Monday in Merida at Estadio VĂ­ctor Cervera Pacheco at 9:30 p.m. EDT. Starters have yet to be announced, though the Diablos Rojos previously indicated that Trevor Bauer would pitch game three.

Guerreros de Oaxaca 9, Conspiradores de Queretaro 2 – Queretaro held a 2-1 lead over Oaxaca in the bottom of the eighth when the game was suspended due to rain Friday night, but Oaxaca blew the game open with an eight-run top of the ninth to take a 2-0 series lead back home.

After Yariel Gonzalez tied the game with an RBI single in the top of the ninth, Kyle Martin’s two-run homer gave the Guerreros the lead. Singles from Luis Barrera, Alejandro Gomez, and Alexi Amarista kept the runs coming for Oaxaca.

The series resumes in Oaxaca on Monday at 9 p.m. EDT. Starting pitchers have not been announced.

Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos 9, Algodoneros de Union Laguna 0 – A day after getting run out of the ballpark in a rout, the Tecos turned the tables on the Algodoneros with a 9-0 shutout to take a 3-1 series lead.

Jake Guerra went 5 1/3 innings, allowing two hits and a walk, striking out four in the winning effort. Freddy Galvis homered in the second for Dos Laredos to open the scoring and contributed an RBI single in the eighth, and Kennys Vargas went 3-for-5 with a homer and an RBI single.

Game five starts at 9 p.m. EDT tonight at Estadio Revolucion in Torreon, with Nate Antone starting for Dos Laredos against Joe Van Meter for Union Laguna.

Sultanes de Monterrey 2, Acereros de Monclova 1 – Nomar Mazara’s single to left in the top of the eighth gave the Sultanes a 2-1 lead that held up, and Monterrey evened the series with Monclova at two games apiece.

Asael Sanchez got the Sultanes on the board with an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning that scored Daniel Castro.

In the bottom of the seventh, Magnueris Sierra singled to center field, driving in Daniel Amaral for Monclova to tie the game at one.

Five Monterrey pitchers combined to allow seven hits and four walks, striking out three, but holding Monclova to a single run.

The series continues tonight at 9 p.m. EDT at Estadio Kickapoo Lucky Eagle in Monclova, with Julio Teheran starting for Monterrey against Wilmer Rios for Monclova.
