There couldn’t have been a worst time for Diablos Rojos del Mexico reliever Deolis Guerra to leave a pitch up in the strike zone.
The count was 2-1 to Christian Ibarra in the bottom of the 10th, the game tied 2-2 with runners on first and second when Guerra’s fourth offering came, and Ibarra deposited it over the wall in left field for a three-run homer and a 5-2 Piratas de Campeche win in game three of the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol’s Serie Campeonato. All told, Ibarra went 2-for-4 batting in the ninth spot for Campeche, hitting the game-winning homer and notching three RBIs in the win.

The Diablos took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Julian Ornelas hit a solo homer to right center.
Ibarra’s fifth-inning RBI single tied the game at one apiece, and two innings later, Francisco Pena’s third homer of the playoffs gave Campeche a 2-1 lead.
In the top of the eighth, Carlos Sepulveda’s sac fly scored Jose Pirela to tie the game at two-apiece for Mexico.
The Diablos held Campeche to just 10 total baserunners on five hits and five walks across 9 1/3 innings, but the Piratas made them count.
Game four of the series is Wednesday night at 9:30 p.m. EDT, with Efrain Contreras pitching for the Reds against Sho Itoh for Campeche.
“To come and have fun, to do what I know how to do and not get carried away by emotions and already on the mound is to attack the strike zone,” Contreras said in a team press release Tuesday. “I’m ready to receive the ball and help the team in any way I can.”
Contreras has made one appearance in the playoffs, throwing three innings, allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts.
“I’ve never pitched in Campeche but I’m going to go out with the same grit with which I always go up the mound, continue attacking the zone and play hard,” Contreras said in the team’s release. “It’s a very different Campeche (team) than the one we faced in the regular season, very brave but we are just as brave and we see that it will be a very close series.”
Contreras made two appearances against the Piratss this year, on May 10 and July 29. He threw four innings and allowed four hits and three runs with four walks and six strikeouts.
Charros, Sultanes Resume Tonight In Monterrey – The Charros will look to get a three-games-to-none lead on the Sultanes when the series resumes tonight in Monterrey with Luis Payan pitching for Jalisco against Stephen Tarpley for Monterrey. First pitch is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. EDT.
