Nick Torres of the Algodoneros de Union Laguna was named the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol’s 2025 MVP after putting together a spectacular year in Torreon.

Torres led the LMB in OPS with a 1.155 mark, tied for the league lead in doubles with 32 and extra-base hits with 65, finished second in triples with 6 and total bases with 238, and was third in home runs with 27 and runs scored with 82 in 86 games.

He also became the fourth slugger in the history of the Algodoneros to lead the LMB in slugging with .730, joining James Bell (with .685 in 1940), Francisco García (with .626 in 1970) and Warren Newson (.734 in 2000).

Torres, 32, a native of Lakewood, California, has played six seasons in the LMB, making his debut in 2019 with the Pericos de Puebla and has been with the Algodoneros since 2021. In his LMB career, he has a batting average of .336 with 637 hits, 142 doubles, 106 home runs and 401 RBIs in 501 games.

The award was determined by a vote of the LMB’s 2025 Special Nominations Election Committee, made up of general managers, coaches, journalists, and public and community relations staffers of the 20 LMB teams as well as local media from the 20 LMB cities and by national media members in Mexico.

Torres won the election over Carlos Sepulveda, Julian Ornelas, and Robinson Cano of the Diablos Rojos del Mexico, Aderlin Rodriguez of the Bravos de Leon and Toros de Tijuana, Andretty Cordero and Angel Reyes of the Rieleros de Aguascalientes, Francisco Pena of the Piratas de Campeche, Yadiel Hernandez of the Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos, Alexi Amarista of the Guerreros de Oaxaca, Alonso Gaitan of the Caliente de Durango and the Toros de Tijuana, Jimmy Kerrigan of the Bravos de Leon, and Mateo Gil of the Charros de Jalisco.

Torres is Union Laguna’s first MVP since Dionys Cesar won the award 2009.
