LMB: Wilmer Rios of the Acereros de Monclova Named Pitcher of the Year for 2025

Right-hander Wilmer Rios of the Acereros de Monclova was named the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol’s Pitcher of the Year for 2025.

Rios led the league in wins with 10, finished second in innings pitched with 104 1/3, third in WHIP  at 1.250, seventh in strikeouts with 81 and seventh in ERA at 4.49.

The native of Guasave, Sinaloa, Mexico won the election over Carl Edwards Jr.  of the Tigres de Quintana Roo, Travis Lakins of the Algodoneros de Union lagun, David Reyes of El Águila de Veracruz and the Toros de Tijuana, Miller Hogan of the Piratas de Campeche, Tyler Danish of the Olmecas de Tabasco, Deylen Miley of the Rieleros de Aguascalientes, Yoanner Negrín of the Leones de Yucatan, Darel Torres of Quintana Roo and the Dorados de Chihuahua, and Daniel Mengden of the Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos.

Wilmer Rios is the son of Jesús “Chito” Ríos, the LMB’s all-time leader in strikeouts with 2,549. Chito Rios is fourth all-time in wins with 244 and sixth in shutouts with 48. He led the league in wins in 1984, 1985, 1987 and 1988, in strikeouts in 1984, 1987, 1988, 1992 and 1997, in ERA in 1985, and was voted to the LMB’s Centennial All-Star Team.

The award was determined in a vote of the LMB’s 2025 Special Nominations Electoral Committee, comprised of general managers, coaching staffs, reporters, press officers, and community managers from the 20 LMB teams, as well as local media outlets from the 20 LMB cities and national media outlets in Mexico.
