Trivino, 33, was waived by the San Francisco Giants on May 9 and elected for free agency. He pitched 12.2 innings with 11 strikeouts and an ERA of 5.84 this season. He signed with the Giants this past offseason after he elected free agency with the Yankees.
Trivino is an Italian American, and he didn’t pitch in MLB for two seasons due to recovery from Tommy John surgery. His last official appearance with the Yankees occurred in the 2022 ALCS against the Houston Astros at Yankee Stadium. He rehabbed with the Yankees’ Double-A affiliate, the Somerset Patriots, and their Triple-A affiliate, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Rail Riders. To close out his 2024 season, he pitched 11 innings with 11 strikeouts and an ERA of 4.91 combined at both levels.
In 2022, he was acquired at the trade deadline from the Oakland Athletics along with Frankie Montas for pitching prospects J.P. Sears, Ken Waldichuk, Luis Medina, and infield prospect Cooper Bowman.
Trivino was drafted by the Athletics in the 11th round of the MLB Draft in 2013 and made his MLB debut with them in 2018. He pitched with them until he was traded in 2022, and his career MLB numbers are 297 innings, 314 strikeouts, and an ERA of 3.94
Trivino was hurt when Italy played in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, but he could be on their radar to join their 2026 WBC roster.
Other pitchers in consideration to round out their pitching staff are players such as Samuel Aldegheri, Filippo Sabatini, Alessandro Ercolani, Anthony DeSclafani, Adam Ottavino, Matt Festa, Michele Vassalotti, Andre Pallante, Claudio Scotti, Glenn Albanese Jr., Mitchell Stumpo, Nathan Eovaldi, Spencer Arrighetti, Vinny Nittoli, Nick Pivetta, Aaron Civale, Zac Gallen, Jordan Romano, Joe Musgrove, Cade Cavalli, Lucas Giolito, and Aaron Nola.
