A five-for-five trade has sent three pitchers, an infielder, and an outfielder to the Tigres de Aragua, with the Aguilas del Zulia getting four pitchers and an infielder in return.

The Tigres will get pitchers Aldry Acosta, Carlos Betancourt, and Gregory Infante, outfielder Alberth Martínez, and infielder Jorbit Rivas, in exchange for pitchers Yonny Chirinos, Jorgan Cavanerio, Luis Ávila, Jean Cabrera, and Jhonny Level.

Chirinos, who made 75 appearances in Major League Baseball with the Tampa Bay Rays, Atlanta Braves, and Miami Marlins, has posted a 3.65 ERA over 106 innings spread across 18 starts with the LG Twins of the Korea Baseball Organization this summer. Over 360 1/3 MLB innings, he has a 4.22 ERA, a 1.260 WHIP and 283 strikeouts. He made four starts for the Bravos de Margarita of the LVBP in 2016-17, throwing 18 innings with a 3.00 ERA.

Martinez, 34, is having a career year with the Bravos de Leon of the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol, slashing .316/.412/.503 with a .916 OPS, 12 homers and 55 RBIs, and has played 13 seasons in the LVBP, all with the Navegantes de Magallanes, appearing in the 2022 Caribbean Series for Venezuela.

Martinez was traded from the Navegantes to Zulia earlier this month as part of a 12-player trade that sent Martinez, Aeverson Arteaga, Angelo castellano, Victor Arias, Arturo Nieto, Brayan Palencia and Jese Tillero to the Aguilas, with the Navegantes getting MLB veteran Rougned Odor, Angel Reyes, Sandy Leon, Jose Pirela, and Jefferson Medina.

Spitzbarth made five appearances for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2021 and pitched the 2022 and 2023 seasons in Triple-A with the Detroit Tigers and Cincinnati Reds’ organizations before splitting 2024 between the Rieleros de Aguascalientes of the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol and the Atlantic League’s Staten Island FerryHawks.

He’s played winter ball each of the last two years, pitching for the Aguilas Cibaenas in LIDOM in 2023-24 and Curacao in the 2024 Caribbean Series, and splitting last winter between the Cangrejeros de Santurce in Puerto Rico and the Cardenales de Lara in the LVBP, throwing 18 2/3 total innings in winter ball.
