A seven-run fifth inning propelled the Navegantes del Magallanes to a 14-6 win in Game 6 of the Liga Venezolana de Beisbol Profesional championship series, giving the Turks their 14th championship in Venezuela’s top league and a berth in the Serie de Las Americas.
Rougned Odor went 4-for-5 with a solo homer, two runs scored, and five RBIs, and Renato Nunez and Luis Sardinas each hit solo shots of their own for the Navegantes.
Odor drove in a pair in the seven-run fifth with a double and later scored when Sandy Leon was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, then hit a solo homer in the sixth. He later doubled in Jose Cordoba in the top of the seventh to give the Navegantes a 14-3 lead.
Seven Navegantes pitchers combined to allow six runs on 11 hits and four walks, with Felix Cepeda being awarded the win as the most effective reliever.
With the win, the Navegantes earned a berth in the Serie de Las Americas, which will be played Feb. 5-13 in Caracas and La Guaira, Venezuela, as the LVBP’s representative.
Leandro Cedeno was named the LVBP championship series MVP, hitting four home runs to tie the league’s all-time record and setting a new record with 14 RBIs in the final series.
