Journeyman Isaias Tejeda will return to the Leones del Caracas for the 2023-24 Liga Venezolana de Beisbol Profesional season.
Tejeda, 31, was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and has been playing in Liga Mexicana de Beisbol and the Atlantic League during the last three seasons.
During the 2023 summer season, Tejeda played in the Liga Mayor de Beisbol Professional circuit for Los Caciques in Venezuela, and played in 32 games with 78 at-bats batting .256 recording 20 hits, two doubles, six home runs, 16 RBI, and 17 walks including a .513 slugging percentage.
Tejeda started the season with the Tigres de Quintana Roo in the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol, playing in 17 games with 73 plate appearances and batting .213 with 13 hits, two doubles, three home runs, five RBI, eight walks, and 14 strikeouts before being placed on the reserve list on May 28, 2023.
During the 2022-23 winter league season, Tejeda won the MVP Award in the best-of-seven LVBP Championship series, helping the Leones del Caracas win in six games over their archrival, the Tiburones de La Guaira, for their 21st league title and their 16th Caribbean Series appearance in franchise history.
Tejeda batted .458 in the LVBP championship series, playing in all six games with 24 at-bats, recording 11 hits, four doubles, eight RBI, three walks, and five strikeouts and a 1.144 OPS.
In the 2023 Caribbean Series, Tejeda played in eight games with 31 plate appearances, batting .154 with four hits, one double, two RBI, four walks, and seven strikeouts, helping Leones reach the championship game.
During the 2022-23 winter league season, Tejeda played in 53 games with 230 plate appearances batting .289 recording 56 hits, 10 doubles, nine home runs, 35 RBI, and 33 walks.
In 2022, Tejeda played for the Lexington Legends in the Atlantic League, appearing in 108 games where he batted .277 in 459 plate appearances with 109 hits, 17 doubles, one triple, 29 home runs, 90 RBI, and 58 walks.
Tejeda has played seven seasons of winter ball in Venezuela and the Dominican Republic since making his debut during the 2017-18 season with Tiburones de La Guaira.
Tejeda also spent six seasons in the New York Yankees organization after signing with them in September 2009 at the age of 17. The Yankees released him on January 9, 2016, and he signed a minor league contract with the Atlanta Braves on June 23, 2016.
Tejeda played 43 games with the High-A Carolina Mudcats batting .256 with 179 plate appearances recording 40 hits, 10 doubles, two triples, four home runs, 30 RBI, and 16 walks before his release on August 17, 2016.
In seven seasons playing in the winter leagues, Tejeda has played in 323 games with 1,319 plate appearances batting .294 recording 334 hits, 67 doubles, 47 home runs, 180 RBI, and 159 walks including a .865 OPS.
Tejeda will be playing in his fourth season with Leones when the 2023-24 LVBP season starts, a year which will see the Leones play their first season at Estadio La Rinconada.
