Manny Machado sits alone at the top of the San Diego Padres franchise home run leaderboard. Machado hit a 429-foot home run in the top of the sixth inning in Seattle to pass Nate Colbert as the franchise home run leaderboard.
Colbert played for the Padres from 1969 to 1974. He was named an All-Star three times in those six seasons and hit 163 home runs. Colbert played 866 games in a Padres uniform. Machado signed with the Padres in 2019. Since then, he has played 794 games for the franchise.
Colbert’s record stood for half a century before Machado hit his 164th off of George Kirby. Machado is signed with the Padres through 2033 due to an extension he signed in February 2023. There is a chance Machado, 32, could finish his career as a member of the Padres as he has a no-trade clause in his deal.
According to MLB’s Sarah Langs, Machado joins Mike Trout and Giancarlo Stanton as the only active players to lead a franchise in home runs. Trout obviously leads the Los Angeles Angels, as he has not played for any other teams, but Stanton is the franchise home run leader for the Miami Marlins.
Machado has hit 26 home runs this season and is a big part of why the Padres are in playoff position. With 16 games left, Machado and the Padres are two and a half games ahead of the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets in the National League Wild Card race.
