The Miami Marlins placed outfielder Avisail Garcia on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain on April 28.
Garcia, 32, was born in Anaco, Venezuela, and has played 13 seasons in Major League Baseball with the Detroit Tigers from 2012-13, the Chicago White Sox from 2013-18, the Tampa Bay Rays in 2019, the Milwaukee Brewers from 2020-21 and has been in South Florida since the 2022 regular season.
He was selected as an All-Star once in 2017.
Garcia signed a four-year, $53 million contract with Miami on December 1, 2021, which included a club option for 2026.
He played 18 games to start the 2024 regular season and batted .240 with 51 plate appearances, ripping 12 hits, one double, two home runs, two RBI, one walk, and 13 strikeouts before landing on the injured list.
During spring training, Garcia played in 16 games with 49 plate appearances and batted .205, recording nine hits, two doubles, three RBI, four walks, and 13 strikeouts.
Last season, Garcia played in 37 games with Miami and batted .186 with 116 plate appearances, recording 20 hits, three doubles, one triple, three home runs, 12 RBI, two stolen bases, six walks, and 39 strikeouts.
Garcia was placed on the 10-day injured list on May 2, 2023, with left back tightness.
He played in 13 games of his rehab assignments between Double-A Pensacola and Jacksonville during the 2023 regular season and batted .227 with 10 hits, three doubles, four home runs, nine RBI, eight walks, and 16 strikeouts.
In his 13 seasons in the MLB, Garcia has a lifetime average of .263. He played in 1,104 games with 4,296 plate appearances, smacking 1,038 hits, 154 doubles, 17 triples, 140 home runs, 524 RBI, 51 stolen bases, 262 walks, 1,038 strikeouts, and a .733 OPS.
