On Saturday, the Marshall Thundering Herd won 6-0 over the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. The win was largely due to freshman pitcher Clint Moak’s complete-game shutout.
Through the full nine innings, Moak threw 112 pitches, and 76 of them were strikes. He had four strikeouts and walked only two batters. Despite giving up seven hits to Southern Miss, he was able to force weak contact often, which led to 10 groundouts and 10 flyouts.
It is the first win in Moak’s career and came in his third start of the 2025 season.
The most impressive part of the performance was that it came against Southern Miss. D1 Baseball ranks the Golden Eagles 13th in the country, and they were arguably the best mid-major heading into this weekend.
The win brings the Thundering Herd back to .500 this season. They are 5-7 in Sun Belt play this season and sit 9th in the conference.
