The event is organized by the Pan American Baseball Confederation (COPABE – WBSC Americas Baseball)
(Press Release; Pan American Baseball Confederation) – The Pan American Baseball Confederation (COPABE – WBSC Americas Baseball) wishes to clarify recent media reports regarding who holds the rights to organize the Baseball Copa América.
The organizers and promoters of the Baseball Copa América are the Pan American Baseball Confederation, known by its acronym COPABE and/or WBSC Americas Baseball, not our governing body, the WBSC (World Baseball Softball Confederation).
Some media outlets and even government authorities have erroneously mentioned or implied that the WBSC has any responsibility for the event, and this is incorrect.
The WBSC was informed of the intention to organize the Baseball Americas Cup as a regional tournament for competitive purposes in the continent. However, it has no involvement in the organization and development of the event.
COPABE (WBSC Americas Baseball) awarded the rights to organize the Baseball Americas Cup to Loarte Consulting Marketing & Event CO., which acted as our agency in the search for event promoters.
Unfortunately, the company that assumed responsibility as the event promoter and signed a contract with our agency failed to fulfill its obligations, forcing the postponement of the Baseball Americas Cup.
Likewise, COPABE – WBSC Americas Baseball wishes to clarify that the Baseball Americas Cup would have awarded berths for the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games and the Lima 2027 Pan American Games. The Baseball Americas Cup has never been a qualifying event for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, nor for any of the baseball world championships organized by the WBSC. The Baseball Americas Cup is an event that, due to its characteristics and the level of its participants, would award points toward the WBSC ranking, according to the methodology established by our governing body.
We regret the situation that has occurred. We thank the National Federations for their support at this time and reiterate our commitment to working with our agency to demand reimbursement for the expenses incurred and the rescheduling of the event.
