Panam Sports announced that Men’s Baseball and Women’s Softball will be part of the Lima 2027 Pan American Games. The sports programme includes 36 sports, 33 chosen by the 41 National Olympic Committees and three by the Lima 2027 Organizing Committee.

“As Panam Sports, we have taken a very important step with the approval of the 36 sports for Lima 2027. We followed a very democratic process among all the National Olympic Committees, and today, the Executive Board has confirmed the sports of the programme of our Pan American Games,” said the President of Panam Sports, Neven Ilic.

The Pan American Games have included Men’s Baseball since the first edition, held in Buenos Aires in 1951. Cuba has won gold in 12 out of 20 editions. USA and Canada have won two editions, while Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela and Colombia have each won one gold medal. Colombia won the 2023 tournament in Santiago (Chile).

The 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto (Canada) featured Women’s Baseball. The United States defeated Canada in the gold medal game.

Softball first debuted on the programme in 1979 with both Men’s and Women’s tournaments.

The 2023 Santiago Women’s Softball tournament was the 12th edition. USA, who defeated Puerto Rico in the 2023 final, have won 10 editions, while Canada has won the other two.

Men’s Softball was on the programme in 2019 for the last time. Argentina defeated USA in the final. Canada won the previous eight editions.

The Lima 2027 Pan American Games will be held from July 16 to August 1, 2027, with the participation of more than 7,000 athletes from the 41 countries of the continent.
