The Mets took game one of their series against the Orioles on a walk-off homer and pulled New York closer to wild card positioning. Here’s everything you missed from yesterday in the MLB.
Mets 4, Orioles 3
The Mets jumped out to a three-run lead before surrendering it in the seventh on a Ramon Urias solo home run. Francisco Alvarez hit a homer with one out in the ninth inning to give New York the win. The Orioles fell to a half-game behind the Yankees after the loss. New York is moved to a game and a half out of the final wild card spot.
Rookie Adrian Del Castillo drove in six runs, including his first career grand slam in the third inning to give Arizona the early lead. Joc Peterson and Jake McCarthy also hit homers to help the Diamondbacks end their three-game losing streak.
Reds 6, Blue Jays 3
Spencer Steer doubled in a run to break the tie and start a four-run sixth inning that helped the Reds end their three-game Cincinnati is five and a half games back of an NL wild-card spot.
Rangers 4, Pirates 3
Corey Seager hit a solo home run in the first and a three-run homer in the third inning to lead the charge for the Rangers in the victory. Texas used three pitchers to hand the Pirates their 12th loss in the last 14 games.
Astros 5, Red Sox 4
Mauricio Dubon singled in one run in the eighth inning to tie the game for the Astros before Yanier Diaz hit a solo homer to win the game. Houston won their third straight despite committing a season-high four errors. Yusei Kikuchi struck out seven and allowed one earned run in five and two-thirds.
The Royals won their fifth straight thanks to a two-run homer in the third from Paul DeJong and three RBIs from Salvador Perez. Seth Lugo allowed two runs on four hits and dished eight strikeouts in seven innings. Kansas City moved into a tie for second place with the Twins in the AL Central and trail the Guardians by two games.
Padres 5, Twins 3
Jackson Merrill hit a bases-clearing double in the third inning that gave San Diego the lead and helped them win game one of the series. Michael King picked up win No. 11 on the year on a six-inning, six-strikeout performance, where he allowed two runs. The Padres sit in the top NL wild card spot after the win and pushed the Twins into a tie for second in the AL Central.
A’s 3, Rays 0
JJ Bleday started the scoring early with a two-run homer in the first inning that would be enough for Oakland to get the win and end the Rays three game winning streak. Four A’s pitchers combined for a two-hitter, and the A’s have won three of four.
Giants 5, White Sox 3
The Giants used a four-run fifth inning capped off by a sac fly from Heliot Ramos to put them on top. Kyle Harrison pitched six innings and struck out five while allowing one run to help San Francisco move to three and a half games back of a wild card spot.
Dodgers 3, Mariners 0
Gavin Lux broke the 0-0 tie with a seventh-inning solo home run that Max Muncy followed up with a two-run homer later in the inning to give the Dodgers the lead the club needed. Gavin Stone struck out a career-high ten batters and only allowed two hits in seven innings. The Mariners have lost six of their last seven and trail the Astros by five games for the AL West lead.
