The Charros de Jalisco have re-signed manager Benji Gil to a one-year extension with a club option for a second year, the team announced on Monday.
The deal assures that Gil, nicknamed “El Matador”, will continue to manage the Charros through the 2026 Liga Mexicana de Beisbol and 2026-27 Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico seasons. Gil has led the Charros to back-to-back LAMP titles, the 2025 Caribbean Series final, the 2026 Caribbean Series championship, and the 2025 Serie del Rey, the championship series of the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol.
In addition to managing the Charros, Gil is the manager of Mexico’s entry in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, the second time he’s managed Mexico at international baseball’s biggest event. He led the club to the semifinals in 2023, the best finish for Mexico in any worldwide team sport event, where they fell to Japan 6-5 in the bottom of the ninth inning.
