Miami Forces a Third Game with a 9-6 Win in the Louisville Super Regional

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – On Saturday, June 7, the Louisville Cardinals and Miami Hurricanes played in game two of the Louisville super regional. The Hurricanes won 9-6, therefore forcing a third “winner-take-all” game between the two teams.

Eddie King Jr., Jake Munroe Get Louisville Out in Front Early – After Miami scored a run off an RBI knock by Michael Torres, Louisville responded with a base hit by Zion Rose that scored a run, and then a two-run home run by Eddie King Jr. This made it a 3-1 game.

Jake Munroe hit a solo home run to continue his great weekend in the super regional to extend Louisville’s lead to 4-1.

Miami Fights Back with Big Fourth Inning, King Jr. Hits Another Home Run – After an RBI knock by Jake Kulikowski, Jake Ogden hit a three-run home run to get Miami back out in front.

This made it a 5-4 game as Miami got all of their runs in the fourth inning with two outs.

In the seventh inning, King hit his second home run of the game to tie the game back up at five.

King Jr. continued his great NCAA Tournament with that hit after he won the MVP award for the Nashville regional last weekend.

King Jr. talked about his performance throughout the NCAA Tournament and what has been going right.

“I just do what I can to help my team,” King Jr. said. “I just try to come up big in situations where my team needs it.”

Renzo Gonzalez, Daniel Cuvet Push Miami on to Victory – With the game tied, the Hurricanes sprung back ahead in the 7th inning with an RBI knock from Renzo Gonzalez.

Miami got more insurance as star hitter Daniel Cuvet hit a three-run home run to make it a 9-5 game.

Despite Louisville adding a run in the ninth inning, Miami held on to win the game 9-6.

Miami head coach J.D. Arteaga talked about the mentality the Hurricanes have had when their backs have been against the wall this season.

“This team is special,” Arteaga said. “There is no quit in it. It was just a gutsy performance across the board.”

Up Next – Miami and Louisville will play a third game on Sunday, June 8, at noon p.m. EDT. This game at Jim Patterson Stadium will determine who is going to the College World Series between the two teams.
