The Miami Marlins promoted outfielder Griffin Conine from Triple-A Jacksonville on August 25 before their four-game road series against the Colorado Rockies.

Conine, 27, was born in Plantation, Fla., and was drafted in the second round of the 2018 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays and signed on June 20, 2018, for a one-year, & 1.35 million contract.

Conine is the son of former MLB outfielder and two-time World Series champion Jeff Conine, who played for the Florida Marlins from 1994 to 97 and 2003 to 2005.

Jeff Conine, also known as Mr. Marlin, played for the Kansas City Royals in 1990, 1992, and 1998, the Baltimore Orioles from 1999-2003 and 2006, the Philadelphia Phillies in 2006, the Cincinnati Reds in 2007, and the New York Mets in 2007 during his 17-year career.

Jeff Conine was a two-time All-Star in 1994 and 1995.

Conine will become the second father-son duo to play for the Marlins, joining David and Ryan Weathers.

This season, Conine played in 112 games with Triple-A Jacksonville and batted .268 in 437 plate appearances, ripping 103 hits, 21 doubles, one triple, 19 home runs, 68 RBI, 47 walks, 129 strikeouts, and a .825 OPS.

Last season, the left-handed hitter played in 110 games between Double-A Pensacola and Triple-A Jacksonville, hitting .247 with 442 plate appearances, smacking 92 hits, 16 doubles, two triples, 20 home runs, 72 RBI, 56 walks, 155 strikeouts, and a .818 OPS.

On August 25, the Marlins optioned right-handed pitcher Emmanuel Ramirez to Jacksonville, claimed right-handed pitcher Mike Baumann off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels, and selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Jonathan Bermudez as part of the correspondence to call up Conine.

According to Christina De Nicola, Marlins beat writer for MLB.com, the decision to place shortstop Xavier Edwards, whose MRI on Saturday came back negative, on the 10-day injured list on Monday allowed Conine to join the active roster. Edwards missed the past two games due to lower back discomfort.

Conine will have a bench role during his time in South Florida, with Jesús Sánchez and Kyle Stowers being corner outfielders and left-handed hitters. He is also competing on the Marlins outfield depth chart with Derek Hill, David Hensley, Vidal Brujan, and Otto Lopez to earn playing time in the last few weeks of the 2024 regular season.
