On Saturday, the Belmont Bruins clinched the series win over the Valparaiso Beacons with a 1-0 win. The headlining story from the victory at E.S. Rose Park in Nashville was the no-hitter thrown by Belmont starting pitcher Zane Brown.
In his full nine innings of work, Brown struck out nine Valparaiso batters and walked only two. He got through the entire game in 115 pitches. This was the sophomore’s second win of the season as his first came back on April 2 against Trevecca Nazarene.
Oddly enough, it has not been a standout year for Brown statistically in Nashville. During the 2025 college baseball season, he has a 9.46 ERA and has allowed an opposing batting average of .302.
Nonetheless, he had the greatest day of his career and etched his name in Belmont baseball history. It was the first no-hitter for the Bruins since 2014, and the first one done by a single pitcher since 1997.
Up Next – The win on Saturday over Valparaiso moves Belmont’s record to 19-26 overall. The Bruins are also 8-9 now in Missouri Valley conference play.
They will have a chance to bring themselves to .500 in conference play on Sunday, April 27. They will complete their weekend series against the Valparaiso Beacons in Nashville and will look to complete the sweep.
The first pitch for Sunday’s matchup is scheduled for 2 p.m. EDT.
Thus far, the Bruins have outscored the Beacons 18-0 through the first two games.
