On Tuesday, April 21, the Jacksonville Dolphins defeated the Florida Gators 7-5 in Gainesville to win their 22nd game of the season.
The Dolphins are now on a five-game winning streak. Before their win over the Gators, Jacksonville also defeated the UCF Knights in a midweek matchup and swept the West Georgia Wolves in a weekend series.
Jacksonville has now defeated Florida twice this season. Therefore, the Dolphins completed a season sweep of the Gators, winning both times the two teams played at Condron Family Ballpark.
A Look at Jacksonville’s 7-5 win over Florida
The Dolphins had 11 hits during Tuesday’s win over the Gators. Blake Edmonds led Jacksonville offensively with four hits in four at-bats. He also scored two runs and had an RBI.
Derek Bermudez and Sammy Mummau also had multi-hit performances against Florida on Tuesday and combined for three runs scored and two RBIs.
Ben Baker-Livingston had a great start on the mound for Jacksonville on Tuesday. The right-handed graduate student pitched six innings and allowed just one earned run against the Gators. He also struck out three Florida hitters and walked only two players.
Payton Waters recorded the save out of the bullpen for Jacksonville. In one inning of work, he struck out an opposing batter and allowed no runs.
Jacksonville also defeated Florida 4-3 on March 31
Before Tuesday’s win over Florida, Jacksonville also defeated the Gators in Gainesville on March 31.
In a 4-3 win, the Dolphins mounted a comeback down 3-0 entering the sixth inning. An RBI knock by Mummau in the sixth inning got the Dolphins on the board. Mummau led the Dolphins in hitting in that game with two hits.
After Mummau’s big hit, the Dolphins scored three runs in the eighth inning, which gave them the lead and also led to them winning the game.
Kyle Hopper had a huge outing out of the bullpen for Jacksonville. He earned the win on March 31 and had two strikeouts in two innings of work against Florida. Hopper also allowed no hits, no runs, and no walks during his appearance.
Up next for Jacksonville
After Tuesday’s win over Florida, the Jacksonville Dolphins have a 22-18 overall record. They are also 9-9 in Atlantic Sun Conference play and are in second place in the conference’s Graphite division behind the North Florida Ospreys.
Their next game is on Friday, April 24, against the Queens University of Charlotte Royals. The game is at Jacksonville’s home ballpark, John Sessions Stadium, and the first pitch is at 7 p.m. ET.
