USC Upstate infielder Johnny Sweeney is back for his graduate year of college baseball in 2026.
In 2025, he put together the best season of his career. Sweeney had a .345 batting average with a .500 on-base percentage for the Spartans. He also had 15 doubles, 18 home runs, and 82 RBIs.
Due to his fantastic 2025 season, Sweeney was also nominated for the first-team All-Big South squad. He was one of five USC Upstate players to be named first-team All-Conference.
Sweeney played a massive role in USC Upstate having one of the best offenses in the Big South Conference. The Spartans had a team batting average of .315. The only team to post a better team batting average in the Big South was the High Point Panthers (.331).
Sweeney Played a Big Role in USC Upstate’s Big-Time 2025 Season
Sweeney played a massive role in USC Upstate’s historic 2025 season as well. The Spartans finished with a 36-25 overall record and a 19-5 record in Big South play.
They won the Big South regular season and tournament championships. For the first time in program history, they made the NCAA Tournament and played in the Clemson regional.

The USC Upstate Spartans will begin the 2026 college baseball season against the South Alabama Jaguars on February 13.
That game will be on the road for the Spartans at Stanky Field in Mobile, Ala. The first pitch is at 7:30 p.m. EST.
