Mid-Major Watch: Little Rock Scores 22 Runs Against Rhode Island to Stay Alive in NCAA Tournament

Arkansas-Little Rock was shut out by the LSU Tigers in the Baton Rouge regional to start the NCAA Tournament. In their second game against the Rhode Island Rams, they flipped the script and won the game 22-10.

Thanks to 20 hits, the Trojans scored 22 runs, which is the most amount of runs a team in the 2025 NCAA Tournament has scored so far. It is also the most runs a team has scored in an NCAA Tournament regional game at Alex Box Stadium.

Five Little Rock hitters had three or more hits in the game. First baseman Angel Cano had four hits and seven RBI. He led the offensive charge the Trojans had.

Cano, along with his teammate and right fielder Sammy Harris, had home runs against Rhode Island.

In total, the Trojans put together nine extra-base hits. The lump of these hits came from Alex Seguine and Cano, who both had two doubles.

Overall, the Trojans went 20 for 46 at the plate, which brings their team batting average in the game against the Rams to .435.

This is a huge surprise considering Little Rock ranked second-from-last in the Ohio Valley Conference in team hitting and was a mere 8-16 in conference play this season.

Up Next – With the win, Little Rock eliminated Rhode Island from the 2025 NCAA Tournament. They will now await the loser of LSU and Dallas Baptist to play in another elimination game.
