On Wednesday, Stony Brook first baseman Erik Paulsen made the decision to enter the transfer portal.
The left-handed hitter is a sophomore who is putting together a huge breakout season for the Seawolves in 2025.
This season, the Massapequa, N.Y., native is batting .368 with an on-base percentage of .448. He has 10 home runs, 16 doubles, and 37 RBI as well.
Paulsen’s best two games this season were a five-hit performance against Seton Hall and a four-hit performance against Niagara. He had four doubles and five RBI in those two games combined.
He statistically is performing better than he did in his freshman season in 2024. That season, he was the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Year. He also made freshman All-American teams that were put together by many news outlets, including D1 Baseball, Perfect Game, and the NCBWA.
Paulsen is not only the best hitter for the Seawolves, but also is a top 10 hitter in the CAA.
He also has a little bit of pitching experience. In 2025, he has six appearances on the mound for Stony Brook, recording a save for the team in a win against the St. John’s Red Storm on March 11.
Paulsen is arguably the top target at this point in the NCAA baseball transfer portal. He is a phenomenal hitter who is ready to play for a team in a power conference for his junior season.
