Mid-Major Watch: Wright State Raiders Dominating the Horizon League

This weekend, the Wright State Raiders defeated Northern Kentucky in a weekend series to continue what has been a phenomenal season in conference play. The team has a 23-4 record in Horizon League play.

Pitching was the name of the game for Wright State this weekend. In their two wins, they held Northern Kentucky to just one run in each game. Starting pitchers Griffen Paige and Garrett Peters went 6 and 5 1/3 innings respectively.

The loss in the middle game of this series was been the team’s only loss in May.

In the weekend before this past one, the Raiders swept Youngstown State in a weekend series on the road. The offense was the key for Wright State as they put up 44 runs in the three games combined.

Wright State has won every series in conference play this season, and this push in conference play has been exceptional for head coach Alex Sogard’s team. The Raiders began the year rusty. They were swept in series against both Ole Miss, N.C. State, and Auburn.

In fact, Wright State had just five wins heading into conference play. Now, with one more weekend in the college baseball season left, they have a 32-16 overall record.

Up Next – The Raiders’ remaining schedule features four more games. First, they will play the Kent State Golden Flashes on Tuesday, May 13. That will be a road game played at Schoonover Stadium in Kent, Ohio.

Then, they will end the season with a weekend series against Purdue Fort Wayne. That will also be a road series from May 15-17 at Mastodon Field in Fort Wayne, Ind.

The first pitch for Tuesday’s game against Kent State is scheduled for 6 p.m. EDT.
