On Thursday, May 7, the Mississippi State Bulldogs defeated the Auburn Tigers 10-3 at Dudy Noble Field in Starkville. It was the 15th win in Southeastern Conference (SEC) play for the Bulldogs.
During the win over Auburn, Mississippi State had 16 hits as a team and allowed just four hits to the Tigers’ lineup. It was a complete performance for head coach Brian O’Connor’s team.
Five Mississippi State players with multiple hits
The Mississippi State Bulldogs had three players with three hits in the win over Auburn.
Noah Sullivan had three hits in his five at-bats and scored three runs during the game. Bryce Chance had three hits in the game as well. Two of his hits were a double and a home run. Chance created lots of runs for Mississippi State with his extra-base hits as he led the Bulldogs with five RBIs.
Vystas Valincius also had three hits during the win over the Tigers. He had an RBI in the game as well with a base hit in the third inning.
Two other Mississippi State players, Blake Bevis and Gehrig Frei, both had two hits apiece against Auburn. Frei had a two-run home run in the sixth inning that extended Mississippi State’s huge lead out to 8-1.
Valincius and Bauer have a great combined effort on the mound
Tomas Valincius started on the mound for the Bulldogs against Auburn and had a fantastic performance. In 6 2/3 innings of work, he had 13 strikeouts while allowing Mississippi State’s offense to get out to a huge lead.
Freshman phenom Jack Bauer came in for Valincius in relief. In 2 1/3 innings of work, he allowed no hits and no runs. Bauer also tallied two strikeouts during his outing.
Up next for Mississippi State
The Mississippi State Bulldogs now have a chance to win a huge weekend series against Auburn on Friday, May 8. The game is at Dudy Noble Field, and the first pitch is at 8:30 p.m. ET.
