The Mississippi State Bulldogs ended the 2025 regular season on a high note with a weekend sweep of the Missouri Tigers on the road in Taylor Stadium.
The bigger, underlying headline from the weekend was a record set by Hunter Hines. The senior from Madison, Miss., set the Mississippi State record for home runs in a career. He now has 69.
On May 16, Hines hit a home run to right field in the sixth inning against Missouri. This gave him 68 career home runs, as he passed Rafael Palmeiro’s career record of 67. The record had lasted since the former Bulldog set it in 1985.
Palmeiro was also a long-time Major League Baseball player, playing in the show from 1986 to 2005. He was a four-time All-Star, a three-time Gold Glove winner, and a two-time Silver Slugger. He is 30th on the all-time hits list with 3,020.
The big moment in Mississippi State history was the highlight of a spectacular weekend for Hines. In the three games against the Tigers, he had five hits, and four of those hits were for home runs. All of the hitting production led to nine RBIs over the weekend for the Mississippi State veteran.
This season, the senior is batting .280 with 15 home runs and 47 RBI.
Up Next – Mississippi State is heading to Hoover, Ala., for the SEC Tournament. Their first game will be Tuesday, May 20, as they play the Texas A&M Aggies. The first pitch is scheduled for 9 p.m. EDT.
