The Tokyo Series, presented by Guggenheim, will mark the start of the 2025 MLB season. The Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers will play two games in Tokyo, Japan, at the Tokyo Dome. The league announced the Tokyo Series Collection will be released on March 7 in collaboration with Japanese contemporary artist Takashi Murakami.
“In celebration of the 2025 MLB Tokyo Series Presented by Guggenheim, taking place March 18-19 at the Tokyo Dome between the Chicago Cubs and the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers, the collection celebrates the deep cultural connection between America’s favorite pastime and its influence in Japan,” wrote MLB.com. “Featuring Murakami’s iconic vibrant colors and playful motifs, the exclusive series brings a fresh, artistic perspective to MLB merchandise and memorabilia, making it a must-have for baseball fans, art enthusiasts, and collectors.”
The Cubs and Dodgers feature some of the best Japanese MLB talent. Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Rōki Sasaki, Seiya Suzuki, and Shōta Imanaga will all be on display for their fans in their home country. Murakami is also an icon representing Japan on a global stage.
“I think this new collection builds upon the historical friendship between Japan and the United States,” Murakami told MLB.com. “I feel lucky to be able to work alongside Complex and MLB and highlight Shohei Ohtani, an outstanding athlete who has emerged from Japan and made a name for himself on the global stage. This is something I am overwhelmed with gratitude to be a part of.”
The collection will feature wearable apparel and “Topps trading cards, New Era 59FIFTYs, knits and adjustable caps, Rawlings® baseballs and gloves, Victus bats, totes, keychains and more,” wrote MLB.com.
