Here is a breakdown of the international prospects selected in the fourth round of the MLB Draft on July 15.
L.P. Langevin, a product of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Quebec City, Canada, has been a standout performer this season. The Kansas City Royals selected him as the 105th overall pick.
Langevin spent the first two seasons of his college career playing for Wabash Valley Community College, a Division III school in Illinois, where he helped lead them to the finals of the 2023 Junior College World Series.
In 2023, Langevin also pitched for the West Virginia Black Bears, a member of the MLB Draft League. He played only ten games, did not allow a run, and allowed only two hits and five walks in 11.1 innings.
Going 6-1 with a 3.73 ERA in 23 games in 2024, Langevin has also had 106 strikeouts, and the Royals certainly saw that quality in him. His best game of the season was against Coastal Carolina, where he pitched 5.1 innings, allowing no hits or walks plus getting ten strikeouts.
Jamie Ferrer, the Puerto Rican outfielder from Florida State, has been selected with the 126th pick in the 2024 MLB draft by the Minnesota Twins. The 6 ‘1 righty from Bayamón, Puerto Rico, has an approximate slot value of 567 thousand dollars and would be a great addition to an already loaded Twins farm system outfield group.
The 21-year-old enjoyed a fantastic season for Florida State his junior year, helping the Seminoles make it all the way to Omaha for the College World Series. He played 57 games in left field and had a 1.083 OPS. Standouts from his game included a low strikeout number of only 41, 25 walks, and 22 long balls.
Ferrer graduated high school from Florida Virtual School and was a top 50 player in Florida for the class of 2021. He was terrific in his three seasons as an everyday player at Florida State, taking a massive power jump this past year.
He is looking to join Emmanuel Rodriguez from the Dominican Republic as an international outfielder at the top of the Twins farm system.
