Judge and Cole Lead Yanks Over Orioles: MLB Recap

The Yankees get back in the win column, Ohtani stops the Dodgers slide, and the Astros stay hot. One thing from each MLB game last night.

A’s 6 Phillies 2 

  • The A’s scored four runs on All-Star Ranger Suarez to beat the Phillies in the first of a three-game A Lawrence Butler solo shot in the eighth helped build a cushion for Oakland. 

Dodgers 4 Tigers 3 

  • The Dodgers rallied back from three down to escape with a win in Detroit. Shohei Ohtani drove in the winning run with a double with two outs in the ninth. LA avoided losing five straight after they got swept by the Phillies.

Rays 2 Guardians 0  

  • The Guardians continued to struggle, getting just five hits as they lost their 10th of 16 games. Rays starter Taj Bradley struck out eight batters in seven innings of work. 

Yankees 4 Orioles 1 

  • The Yankees took game one in Baltimore thanks to MLB-leading home run number 33 from Aaron Judge. Gerrit Cole had his longest outing of the season since returning from injury. He threw 106 pitches. 

Mets 7 Rockies 6  

  • The team combined for nine home runs in a power fest that saw New York finish on top. The Mets continue their hot stretch. Since June 2, New York is 24-10.

Royals 6 Red Sox 1  

  • Home Run Derby participant Bobby Witt went deep to help Kansas City win game one in Boston. The Royals have won four straight and continue to inch closer to the struggling Guardians for first place in the AL Central. 

Reds 7 Marlins 4 

  • Reds rookie Rece Hinds continued his hot stretch since being called up from Triple-A on July 8th with his first career grand slam in the third. He has hit three homers in five games. Cincinnati took the first game of their final series before the All-Star break thanks to a career-high nine strikeouts from Carson Spiers.

Astros 6 Rangers 3 

  • The Astros won their tenth straight home game and continued a scorching stretch. Jose Altuve hit a three-run homer to help Houston to the win. The Astros have the best record in the MLB since June 1 at 25-11.

Pirates 4 White Sox 1  

  • The Pirates scored two in the fifth and sixth innings to beat Chicago to open the series. Marco Gonzales returned from the injured list and provided a quality start for Pittsburgh, going five innings and allowing one run. 

 Nationals 5 Brewers 2 

  • Washington ended a five-game slide on the back of Jackson Rutledge, struck out six in four and two-thirds in his major league debut. Jesse Winker provided two hits, including a home run. 

Cubs 5 Cardinals 1 

  • The Cubs won a season-high five games in a row thanks to seven shutout innings from Kyle Hendricks. Chicago totaled 13 hits and beat the Cardinals on the road to start a four-game.

Angels 6 Mariners 5  

  • Willie Calhoun hit a two-run homer to walk off the Mariners in the tenth. The Angels took game two to even the series. 

Diamondbacks 5 Blue Jays 4 

  • The Diamondbacks won to push themselves over .500 for the first time since April 3rd. Geraldo Perdomo drove in the walk-off run with a sacrifice fly. 

Braves 6 Padres 1 

  • The Braves got two long home runs from Marcell Ozuna who now has 26 on the year. Atlanta bounced back after losing the last two games in Arizona and pushed the Padres losing streak to five. 

Giants 7 Twins 1 

  • The Giants had lost four of five before this game but got three hits from Brett Wisely to win game one against Minnesota. Kyle Harrison allowed one run against the Minnesota lineup in five and a third.
