A no-hitter was thrown, and Clayton Kershaw pitched for the first time this season. Here’s everything you missed from yesterday in the MLB.
Padres 3 Nationals 0
Dylan Cease threw the second no-hitter in Padres history to complete the sweep of the Nationals. Cease got it done on 114 pitches to collect his third complete game in the MLB. Ha-Seong Kim drove in all three of the Padres runs on a single in the first inning. San Diego grew their win streak to five games.
Orioles 7 Marlins 6
The Orioles blew a six-run lead before Ryan Mountcastle hit a single in the tenth that drove in the winning run to end their three-game losing streak. Baltimore hit three home runs, including No. 28 from Anthony Santander, to leave Miami with a win.
Tigers 3 Guardians 0
Detroit combined for a four-hitter on a bullpen day to split the series against the division-leading Guardians. Javier Baez hit his first home run since April 14 in the second inning to provide all three runs for the Tigers. Cleveland lost for the eighth time in their last 12 games.
Rangers 2 White Sox 1
Max Scherzer struck out a season-high nine batters to move into tenth all-time on the career strikeout list. Leody Taveras reached on a fielder’s choice in the fourth that scored one and would be enough for Texas to complete the sweep. The Rangers have won five in a row, while Chicago has dropped their last 11 and 17 of their last 20.
Rays 13 Blue Jays 0
The Rays put on a hitting clinic in the final game of the series in Toronto. Brandon Lowe homered to the upper deck, the first upper deck home run at the Rogers Centre since 2019. All-Star Issac Paredes drove in four runs of his own to help Tampa Bay win the series. The Blue Jays have lost three straight series.
Brandon Lowe just hit one into the 500 level at Rogers Centre. 😳
Clayton Kershaw returned to the mound for the first time this year, allowing two runs in four innings. Shohei Ohtani followed up a Nick Ahmed homer with one of his own on the next pitch to make it 31 on the year for the Japanese star. The Dodgers have won six of seven since returning from the All-Star break.
Mets 3 Braves 2
The Mets won their fourth straight thanks to a walk-off single in the tenth by Jeff McNeil. The Braves have lost five straight and find themselves just a half-game in front of the Mets for the top wildcard spot in the NL.
A’s 6 Angels 5
Oakland ended the Angels four game win streak after taking the first game of the series. Lawrence Butler and Brent Rooker each hit their ninth home run of July to lead the charge for the A’s offense.
