MLB Spring Breakout has International Flavor

Major League Baseball (MLB) confirmed that 16 Spring Breakout Games will be part of the 2025 Spring Training for the second consecutive year. According to MLB Pipeline, the rosters include 72 of the top 100 baseball prospects. Boston Red Sox-Tampa Bay Rays and Los Angeles Dodgers-Chicago Cubs will open the series of games on Thursday, April 13. Six games are scheduled for Friday, March 14, while four games will be played on Saturday, March 15 and Sunday, March 16.

The FULL SCHEDULE

The rosters feature notable international baseball stars. Infielder Carson Williams, outfielder Chandler Simpson (Tampa Bay Rays), and outfielder Colby Thomas (Oakland A’s) led the United States to the WBSC Premier12 2024 bronze medal.

Infielder Travis Bazzana (Cleveland Guardians) also competed in the Premier12, representing Australia. He previously starred for Australia at the U-18 and U-23 levels.

Outfielder Brayan Buelvas (Oakland A’s) led Colombia to first place in the Tucson World Baseball Classic Qualifier. He previously starred for his country at the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup.

First-baseman Bryce Eldridge (San Francisco Giants) was the MVP at the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup 2022.

Right-handed pitcher Chen Zhong-Ao Zhuang (Oakland A’s) played for Chinese Taipei at the U-23 Baseball World Cup 2021 and 2022.

Right-handed pitcher Hyun-Seok Jang (Los Angeles Dodgers) has played for Korea at the Asian Games 2022.

Infielder Tsung-che Cheng (Pittsburth Pirates) helped Chinese Taipei win the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup 2019 and played at the 2022 Asian Games.

Alberto Barriga (Arizona Diamondbacks) represented Mexico in the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup 2023

Right-handed pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje (Settle Mariners) played for the Netherlands at the WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup 2018.

The Spring Breakout games showcase baseball’s future stars, as each Major League Club will field a team of top prospects to play a team of top prospects from another organization in a nine-inning exhibition game.

Spring Breakout will use the Automated Ball-Strike (ABS) system in seven stadiums (Clearwater, Dunedin, Glendale, Goodyear, Jupiter, Peoria and Scottsdale (Salt River Fields at Talking Stick).
