Baseball continues to grow in South Korea as more fans are drawn to the sport. The top professional league in Korea, the KBO, announced that with the influx of nearly 10 million spectators, it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with movie theater company CJ CGV.

The KBO and CGV plan to show one regular-season game per week and all its postseason games in the fall at select CJ CGV theaters. The KBO will announce future showing dates via its app.

Fans have already flooded to theaters to watch the defending Korean Series champions LG Twins and the fourth-place NC Dinos face off this past Sunday. Fans cheered almost as if they were at the stadium watching in person.

CJ CGV also plans to broadcast the All-Star Game on July 6th. Broadcasts will be shown in the city of Incheon. CJ CGV will also sponsor a mid-game “CGV Cleaning Time Show” event during the fifth-inning stretch.

The KBO and CJ CGV already saw success with this model last year when the CGV theaters hosted the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO Korean Series.

CJ CGV CEO Huh Min-hoe praised the success of the 2023 Korean Series game broadcast live by CGV and hopes to create a culture for fans to enjoy and cheer for the KBO.
