Mr. Volunteer: Hunter Ensley Leaves Tennessee with a Legacy

After five seasons playing for the Tennessee Volunteers, Hunter Ensley’s historic college career has come to a close.

He leaves Knoxville decorated with accolades that helped to fill Tennessee’s trophy case.

An Everyday Player for Tennessee

Ensley finished his career with a .303 batting average, a .399 on-base percentage, 202 hits, and 141 RBI.

He played in 205 games with Tennessee, which puts him in the top ten for games played in school history.

Ensley’s All-SEC 2025 Season

The 2025 season in particular was a good one for Ensley. He was a second-team All-SEC outfielder right alonside other great players in the conference, such as Texas A&M’s Jace LaViolette and Georgia’s Robbie Burnett.

On top of that, he was also named to the SEC’s 2025 All-Defensive team.

The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) named him a second-team All-American as well.

During the 2025 season, Ensley reached career-bests in batting average (.336), on-base percentage (.418), walks (30), RBI (60), and hits (81).

Integral in Tennessee’s New Championship Culture

Ensley played a big role in the foundation that has been set by the Tennessee baseball program this decade.

In all five seasons with the Volunteers, the team made it to a super regional in the NCAA Tournament.

From those five-straight super regional appearances, Ensley led the charge to getting Tennessee to the College World Series three times in 2021, 2023, and 2024.

Ensley played a part in winning many SEC championships while at Tennessee, and in 2024 he was an integral part of Tennessee winning their first national championship.

The Volunteers won the SEC Tournament twice and SEC regular season title twice with the veteran outfielder on the team in 2022 and 2024.

Mr. Vol

It is easy to see the huge impact Ensley has had on Tennessee baseball. He is a player who infused Knoxville with college baseball fever and a winning attitude.

He did all of this while progressing into what was a high-caliber final season on Rocky Top.
