Italian-Brazilian ace pitcher Murilo Gouvea has signed a deal with UnipolSai Fortitudo that lasts until the end of the 2024 season. This will be the right-handed pitcher’s second stint with the Italian Baseball League and UnipolSai Fortitudo. Gouvea was UnipolSai Fortitudo ace pitcher from 2018 to 2022, helping lead his team to three consecutive league titles: 2018, 2019, and 2020. His best season in the Italian Baseball League came in 2022, with 11 wins, 18 saves, and an ERA of 0.82.
Gouvea has played professional baseball internationally for Italy and Brazil, competing in the 2013 classic and the 2023 Pan American Games for Brazil and pitching for the Italian national team in the 2019 European Championships and the 2020 Olympic Qualification.
The 35-year-old pitcher also played seven seasons of minor league baseball, pitching for the White Sox and Astros minor league affiliates. Although never making it to the major leagues, Gouvea did reach the Houston Astros former triple-A affiliate team in 2015 the Fresno Grizzlies.
UnipolSai Fortitudo is currently tied for first place in Group A of the Italian Baseball League. The 35-year-old legendary Italian League pitcher will not only serve as a great addition to the team’s back end starting rotation and bullpen, but Gouvea will also be a mentor and leader who understands what it takes to win a league title.
