Murray State Advances to the College World Series for the First Time

On Monday, the Murray State Racers won game three of the Durham super regional to advance to the 2025 College World Series. They defeated the Duke Blue Devils 5-4 and are heading to Omaha for the first time in program history.

The Durham super regional was also their first super regional appearance.

The Racers’ Run to Omaha – Murray State’s journey began with an NCAA Tournament bid after winning the Missouri Valley Conference tournament. Thus, the Racers made the NCAA Tournament field for the first time since 2003.

They were sent to the Oxford regional, which the Ole Miss Rebels hosted.  They won three games, defeated Ole Miss twice, and also beat Georgia Tech to advance to the super regional.

During those three wins, Murray State scored 36 runs as their offense found rhythm.

In the Durham super regional against Duke, the Racers came up short in the first game as they lost 7-4.

However, in the second game, where they needed to win to stay alive in the postseason, Murray State scored 19 runs on 17 hits. The Racers had four players hit home runs during the 19-9 win.

This led to the “winner-take-all” game on Monday, which the Racers won 5-4.

History Made – With the berth into the College World Series, Murray State becomes the fourth four-seed ever to accomplish this

The last time a four seed made it to the College World Series was when Oral Roberts made it in 2023. Stony Brook and Fresno State also accomplished the feat in 2012 and 2008, respectively.

In 2008, Fresno State went on to win the national championship.

Up Next – The Racers’ Cinderella run will continue at the College World Series, beginning on Saturday, June 14.

They will face off against the UCLA Bruins at Charles Schwab Field that day, with the first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. EDT.

The game can be watched on ESPN.

The result of that game will set them up for a matchup with either the Arkansas Razorbacks or the LSU Tigers on Monday, June 16.
